During Your Travels in Canada
Wednesday, January 26th, 2011When you are traveling to Calgary, Alberta Canada take some time and visit a few of the interesting museums and sites in Calgary. One of which is the Glenbow Museum located in the downtown area, the Glenbow Museum is western Canada’s largest museum. The vast gallery houses an excellent collection of both European and contemporary Canadian art, as well as a wide range of objects that chronicle the history of the Canadian West. Laid out over four floors, the gallery’s permanent displays include both native and pioneer artefacts, ranging from settlers wagons to a stunning collection of First Nations’ cress and jewellery. The fourth floor is devoted to five centuries of military history, with exhibits of medieval armour and Samurai swords. Accommodations at Cheap Calgary hotels are readily available.
One of my favourite places to visit in Calgary is the Fish Creek Provincial Park which was established in 1975. This park is one of the world’s largest urban parks, covering 2,938 acres of forest and wilderness along the Fish Creek Valley. Park guides hold slide shows on both the ecology and history of the region, detailing the park’s many archaeological sites, such as buffalo jumps dated between 750 BC and 1800 AD. The park’s forest is a mix of white spruce, aspen, and balsam poplar. In winter, many of the hiking trails become cross-country ski trails, popular with locals and visitors alike. The Canada goose, the great blue heron, and the bald eagle are among a variety of birds that visit the park during both summer and winter. Calgary is located approximately 276 km’s south of Edmonton. We have a site that has special negotiated cheap Edmonton hotels, it’s most definitely worth checking out.
If you’re traveling back east in the Ontario region a must visit is Niagara Falls where you’ll be amazed with the power and sound of the falls. One of my memorable places at Niagara Falls that I visited was the Whirlpool Rapids at 3850 River Road. The Niagara River makes a dramatically sharp turn about 4.5km’s downstream from the falls, generating a vicious raging whirlpool, one of the most lethal stretches of water in all of North America. The effect is created when river pushes against the North West side of the canyon, only to be forced to turn around in the opposite direction. The most stunning view of the whirlpool rapids is form the Spanish Aeor Car, a specially designed, brightly coloured cable car that crosses the Gorge high above the river. A different perspective of the falls can be seen from there.
If you’re planning on spending the night you’ll find many cheap Niagara Falls hotels before you hit the expensive view hotels near the falls.
